I am pleased to offer from my private collection this exceptionally rare and decorative French verge fusee pocket watch dating to circa 1790, signed Levasseur à Paris. This remarkable timepiece is housed in a highly unusual walnut-shaped gilt bronze ormolu case, richly textured to imitate the natural surface of a walnut shell — a true celebration of both nature and neoclassical design. Maker: Levasseur à Paris Movement: Key-wound verge fusee escapement with finely pierced and engraved balance cock. Fully functional and in perfect working order. Dial: Enamel dial with Roman numerals and ornate pierced gilt hands. Visible hairlines present, consistent with age. Case: Boldly modeled walnut form in gilt bronze ormolu. Reverse inset with a polished heart-shaped labradorite cabochon, displaying rich blue and grey iridescence. Hinged lid opens to reveal the dial. Condition: Excellent for age; the movement runs well. Minor enamel cracks and age-related surface wear, typical of pieces from this era. Dimensions: 42mm diameter (excluding bow) Provenance: European estate collection An extraordinary late 18th-century French pocket watch — both a timekeeper and an objet d’art. Rarely found in this whimsical and symbolic natural form. Highly collectible for connoisseurs of verge watches, ormolu, and unique antique horology.
