Description
Up for auction is a museum-grade historical artifact of exceptional rarity and provenance: a beautifully preserved J.G. Germano 18K Rolled Gold Fountain Pen, specially commissioned and presented to the legendary Vittorio Pozzo, head coach of the Italian national football team, during the 1936 XI Olympiad in Berlin.
Under Pozzo’s masterful leadership, the Italian football team secured the Gold Medal at these historic 1936 Games. This exquisite writing instrument stands not just as a marvel of 1930s European craftsmanship, but as a tangible piece of Olympic and football history. The pen comes from his family estate.
Historical Context & Provenance
Vittorio Pozzo (1886–1968) is widely regarded as one of the greatest football managers of all time. He remains the only manager to win two FIFA World Cups (1934 and 1938), and nestled perfectly between those triumphs was his ultimate Olympic victory at the 1936 Berlin Games. This pen was a high-prestige presentation piece to commemorate his presence and ultimate triumph at the XI Olympiad. Items bearing direct presentation ties to coaching legends of this era are exceedingly scarce and highly coveted by both sports historians and fine writing instrument collectors.

Condition Report
-
Cosmetic Condition: Excellent antique condition. The rolled gold remains brilliant with wonderful patina and no major instances of brassing. The guilloche lines and all historical engravings remain remarkably crisp and legible.
-
Mechanical Condition: This is a traditional button-filler mechanism. The internal spring system is fully intact and depresses smoothly. Please note: As is entirely expected with untouched antiques of this age, the original internal rubber ink sac has hardened over the decades. It will require a simple sac replacement to be used for daily writing (a standard service that can be performed at any professional pen repair shop for under $50).
-
Presentation Box: The pen comes resting in its original, luxury red presentation case. The interior cream silk lining is flawlessly stamped with the 1936 XI Olympiade Berlin logo, featuring the Brandenburg Gate over the Olympic rings. The box shows age-appropriate wear but functions perfectly, completing this museum-quality set. The pen comes with an APPRAISAL CERTIFICATE FOR $7000
