Antique Silver Gold Enamel Pocket Watch Awarded by Queen Victoria 1890 J.Forrest

Description

I am pleased to offer from my private collection this extremely rare, museum-quality antique English solid Sterling Silver and enamel award pocket watch, circa 1890s. This masterpiece was crafted by the renowned John Forrest, officially designated “Chronometer Maker to the Admiralty.”

This specific timepiece carries extraordinary historical provenance, having been personally awarded by Queen Victoria to a Bulgarian diplomat in London. It comes complete with its matching key and an appraisal certificate for $3,500.

Case & Dial:

  • Case: An impressive, entirely hand-engraved solid sterling silver case (56mm diameter, 20mm thick, and weighing a substantial 160 grams).

  • Caseback: The back is decorated with a stunning gold and cobalt blue enamel center, proudly depicting the personal Royal Cypher Monogram of Queen Victoria—VR (Victoria Regina)—beneath the crown.

  • Dial: A magnificent silver hand-engraved dial featuring applied gold Roman numerals and beautiful floral motifs in the center.

  • Hands & Crystal: Retains its original hands and the original thick crystal.

Movement & Mechanics:

  • Maker: John Forrest, London (Serial No. 56909).

  • Type: Hand-finished, fusee chain-driven movement.

  • Features: Beautifully engraved balance cock, fully jeweled, ruby endstone on the balance, compensating balance with gold weight screws, precision regulator, and brilliant blue steel screws.

  • Authenticity: 100% all-original parts. Nothing has ever been changed or replaced. Includes the original movement protector case.

Condition: Excellent to mint condition. A flawless addition for the discerning collector of royal or horological antiquities.

Notes from the Image Verification:

To ensure full accuracy for your buyers, here are a few technical details confirmed directly from your provided photographs that you can rely on if buyers ask questions:

  • Hallmarks : The inner case clearly displays the English Lion Passant (certifying Sterling Silver), the Chester city assay mark (the three sheaves of wheat and sword), and a date letter “F”.

  • Serial Number Match: The serial number 56909 is perfectly stamped on both the movement and the silver case , proving they are original to one another.

  • Dial Details: The dial features applied gold Roman numerals (I through XII), complemented by an elegant subsidiary seconds dial at the 6 o’clock position.
