I am pleased to offer from my private collection this antique Ottoman Market Pocket Watch – Sultan Portrait Dial | WWI Era | 42mm | Silver Case with Gold-Filled Trim A stunning and culturally important timepiece, this WWI-era pocket watch was crafted specifically for the Ottoman market, featuring a striking enamel portrait dial of a Sultan in full military regalia and wearing the iconic fez, emblematic of the late Ottoman period. These rare watches were often worn with pride or gifted as diplomatic and ceremonial items across the empire. Key Features: • Dial: Beautifully preserved enamel dial featuring a vivid hand-painted portrait of an Ottoman Sultan, likely from the reign of Sultan Mehmed V  (early 20th century). Surrounded by stylized Ottoman-style Arabic numerals, with delicate gilded Louis XV-style hands and a sunken sub-seconds register at 6 o’clock. • Case: Handsomely detailed silver case with engraved geometric and foliate motifs and a blank shield cartouche to the back, bordered by a gold-filled trim. Includes prominent bow and crown in traditional style. • Size: Approx. 42mm diameter (excluding crown). • Movement: Swiss-made, Remontoir Cylindre 6 Rubis (stem-wind cylinder escapement with 6 jewels), signed on the inner cover. Clean and well-kept brass bridge movement, regulator marked Avance / Retard. • Case Marks: Inner lid shows Swiss hallmarks, serial number, and export stamps confirming production for international, likely Middle Eastern, markets. • Era: Circa 1910–1920, coinciding with the final decades of the Ottoman Empire. Condition: Overall very good antique condition. Light patina and some wear consistent with age. The portrait is bright and finely executed; all hands and crystal present.
