Imperial Rus Kuznetsov Fine Painted Porcelain Silver Tea Cup Award by Tsar 1878

I am pleased to offer from my private collection this important historical antique   Imperial Rus Tsar’s Era  Kuznetsov fine painted porcelain  tea cup with matching silver plate c1878. It has been presented by  Tsar Alexander II The Liberator to the Ottoman Foreign Minister Saffet Pasha to celebrate the end of the Turkish war. Saffet Pasha signed the Treaty of San Stefano c1878 on  behalf of the Ottoman Empire. It comes from his family estate. The silver plate depicting the Ottoman Sultant’s Tughra and the Ottoman coat of arms. Hallmarked with Ottoman import custom Tughra hallmarks. The porcelain cup is signed with Kuznetsov hallmark on the bottom together with the Imperial warant eagle and also signed “Kuznetsov” in Arabic language. Excellent original condition. The cup is 57mm in diameter. The plate is 12cm in diameter. It comes with an APPRAISAL CERTIFICATE for $3,000.00

History of Kuznetsov factory:

The factory was established by a merchant Terenty Kuznetsov in 1832.  Kuznetsov products were known for distinctive porcelain whiteness. Female workers painting porcelain were called Agafya and their products agashkas. Imperial porcelain industry developed especially fast in the second half of 19th century after serfdom was abolished in the empire. New capitalist fastly growing elite needs were best satisfied by Kuznetsov factories.  Kuznetsov company overtook in 1891 Gardner Verbilki factory (nowadays Dmitrovsky Porcelain Factory). In 1889 the new name of the company was – M.S. Kuznetsov Company for the Manufacture of Porcelain and Pottery Goods. The Kuznetsov porcelain empire swiftly mechanized production when cheap foreign competition entered Imperial market.  The scope of products was enormous. Kuznetsov factories produced some 150 different dinner, tea and coffee sets. There were 370 types of cups in production.  In 1918, the Kuznetsov factories were nationalized. Kuznetsov traditions are now still upheld by Dulevo factory.
