I am pleased to offer from my private collection this absolutely breathtaking antique early 19th Century French 18k gilt “Ormolu” bronze Skeleton Memento Mori Doctor’s Verge Fusee desk clock c1790’s in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Made by the French watch master Pierre a Rouen. The clock is in the form of a skeleton representing the Grim Reaper holding the Caduceus staff scepter (also known as the Rod of Asclepius or the staff of Hermes. This symbol was adopted and become a medicine symbol) The skeleton sits on a massive black Granite marble stone. The skeleton is over 7kg heavy,36cm high. Very impressive. The skull of the skeleton opens to reveal the clock. The skull head can be removed from the skeleton body and it can be wear separately as a pocket watch on a chain!!!
Fine enamel dial with original hands. High grade verge fusee movement,fire gild ,hand pierced balance cock.
All the parts original.Nothing has been ever changed or replaced in this clock!
It comes with a matchink winding key.
The skeleton comes with a huge wooden box.
