Description
Presented for your consideration is an exquisite Imperial Tsar’s Era Presentation 18k Gold Plated Silver and hand carved Verdite hard stone Easter Egg, meticulously crafted circa 1906.
This exquisite object originates from the Cabinet of Her Imperial Majesty, the administrative office responsible for commissioning personal gifts and commemorative items for Empress Alexandra Feodorovna.
The House of Faberge had become the primary supplier to the Imperial Court. While the famous “Imperial Easter Eggs” were unique annual gifts between the Tsar and his family, “Presentation Eggs” like this one were commissioned in limited numbers for the Empress to gift to high-ranking nobility, visiting dignitaries, or favored members of the court.
The Choice of Verdite: During this era, there was a profound fascination with the natural mineral wealth of the empire. Faberge led the “Hardstone Renaissance,” moving away from purely faceted gems to focus on the intrinsic beauty of minerals. Verdite, with its deep, “Imperial Green” hue, was chosen to symbolize growth and renewal, making it the perfect medium for an Easter gift of such high status.
Detailed Artistry
-
The Monogram: The centerpiece features the Personal Monogram of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, expertly rendered in gilt silver and overlaid with vibrant translucent blue and red vitreous enamel. The cipher is surmounted by the Imperial Crown, marking its status as a presentation piece.
-
The Medium: The body is carved from a single, solid block of Verdite hardstone. It possesses a deep, verdant character with natural mineral variations that provide a unique depth.
-
The Mounts: The egg is crowned with a magnificent Double-Headed Imperial Eagle finial and rests upon a tripod base of three Baroque-style dolphins. All metalwork is solid 84-hallmarked silver finished with a heavy, lustrous 18k gold gilding.
