Description
A beautiful piece of early 20th-century horological history: an authentic, Swiss-made Hebdomas “8 Jours” (8-day) Pocket Watch, c. 1910s–1920s. Founded on patented movement architecture initially registered by Irénée Aubry (CH88A) and popularized globally by Graizely & Co. (later Schild & Cie in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland), the “Hebdomas” brand is celebrated for its highly distinctive open-heart configuration and massive mainspring barrel, designed to keep precise time for more than a full week (hence “8 Jours”). This exceptional 50mm pocket watch, is complete with an original, heavily textured silvered chain and an 1880 “Confoederatio Helvetica” (Switzerland) coin/medal fob.
Rather than hiding the balance wheel behind a dust cover, Hebdomas’s genius lay in mounting the balance and escapement directly on the dial side under a decorative, floral-etched golden bridge. Combined with an off-center white enamel dial with hand-painted gold & blue details and ornate gilt hands, these watches achieved a visually striking, haute-horlogerie “open heart” aesthetic that remains fiercely sought-after by vintage collectors today.
